December 17 & 18

Sunday 17th December 1978
Got up at 9.45
Washed my hair
Went to Fi's at 11.00
Helped serve at their sherry come nosh up afternoon (told you it was posh were I grew up ... sherry afternoons!!)
Got home at 1/2 5
Uncle Tom's heart stopped and he is in a critical condition now.
Sam phoned
He said Rod Stewarts concert was great
Watched 'Papermoon ' & 'Soap' (Soap was an absolute favourite of mine)
Put the lights on the tree
Went to bed at 11.00 ish
The phone has just rang:- Uncle Tom has died just now



Monday 18th December 1978
Got up at 8.00
Mam = a week off work cos of Uncle Tom she is so upset
8.50 train cancelled so got the bus got to college at 9.35
Fi got a ticket for the Tech do tonight it cost her 80p
'J' came round at 7.30 - 9.40
We had such a great laugh I gave her her Crimbo pressie
Decorated the lounge with tinsel etc
It is really frosty and foggy = -0 degrees = cold (erm yes state the obvious)
Phoned Sam
Phone bill = £34.56 (gulp I am in so much trouble)

Day 17 & 18

I had no interweave hence no post last night. I have been Christmas shopping tonight (still no Nintendo ds Lite to be had ... dam I am in so much trouble from the Teen) ..... hey ho, ho ho ho Merry Christmas.

The other day I saw a man playing Dancing Queen
on the Didgeridoo. I thought, that's Aboriginal.

Ballerinas are always on their toes. Why don't they just get taller ballerinas?

When you've seen one shopping centre, you've seen a mall.

2 tourists were driving through Wales, at Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch
they stopped for lunch and asked the waitress,
"before we order could you please settle an argument for us and pronounce where we are VERY SLOWLY!!!
The waitress leaned over and said

"BURRR --- GURRR--- KING

The game today is a footy one.... don't let that put you off (apart from the fact we ain't in it) .... it is more like shove h'penny. The graphics are clever.

Sam goes to see Rod Stewart at Birmingham
Worked 11.00 - 5.00
£4.00 wages = quite busy
Got a jumper from Justin = £6.99 but it's for Crimbo
Stayed in & watched TV

Made Sam's Crimbo card I drew Snoopy on it

Friday 15th December 1978
1 year = me & Sam
We made it
College at 9.00
Cookery was cancelled
Skived Business Studies 3 - 4 pm (wasn't really worth going in was it??)
Put up Christmas Tree & marzipaned the Christmas cake
Phoned Sam - his cousin was on TV
Sam phoned back at 9.10
we talked for about 3/4 hour
Really love him & I wish he were here now
Fi phoned at 10.45
Went to bed at 12.00

Made rough puff pastry & Florida Cocktail in cookery

Played subbuteo with my brother (surely he didn't allow me to play and surely it wasn't with Sams present??)
Did essay on Elizabeth Fry
Went to bed at 11.00


Day 14
What is your 'elf name' I am Jolly Fluffy-Paws (awww!)

This is another cool stress buster game...... I have only managed 100,000 so far but I will get better, it is definitely a 'just one more go' type of game (thanks CK !)

This is funny and I have been asked to dance a few times by blokes who had some of these moves (check out the Ice Ice baby) hee hee

Wednesday 13th December 1978
Got up at 8.00
Got letter off Sam & a hankie off his parents from Tenerife
In Sociology I found out about the London Trip yesterday - everyone was drunk (surely not on a college trip!!!)
Wrote to Sam
Played volleyball & netball against Skelmersdale Tech
Phoned Sam
Went round to Robbie's house to pick up a subbuteo for Sam
(this was a lad at school he was selling his subbuteo so I bought it fro Sam for Christmas. When I was growing up I was banned form playing subbuteo as I would kneel on the players and wrinkle up the pitch .... stupid game )

Day 13

December 11 & 12

Monday 11th December 1978
Had 4 hours free today.
Bought Kate's dad a tie and my brother 'The Clash Song book' (I had a bit of a 'beem me up Scotty ' moment buying this book. I had trudged around trying to find it and passed this book shop and doubled back. Went in and asked 'have you got the Clash Song Book?' and as the words came out I realised I was in Christian bookshop !!!!... hasty retreat!!)
Came home at 5.30
Wrapped all my Christmas presents & wrote my cards (gosh I wish I was still that organised)
Sam phoned at 9.00
We got cut off so he phoned back
Fi rang
My brother and his girlfriend came back from Denmark at 10.00
Riots & demonstrations in Tehran



Tuesday 12th December 1978
My brother goes to Tehran today at 7.45 am (this is not mentioned again in my diary but this was a really worrying time for my family. My brother had gone over to work in Tehran just as the Shah was over throne. We heard nothing from him for weeks, we had no idea where he was. Eventually he was smuggled out of Tehran and put on a fishing boat across to Dubai ... I suppose in reality he shouldn't have gone but no Home Office advice was given saying don't go. I know he witnessed a lot of people being shot and many other atrocities)
Didn't go to college today
Got up at 10.30 had a bath
Sam & Fi rang
Went to town at 2.00
Came home at 5.15
Sam rang At 7.45
I met Fi and we went to the YMCA for disco dancing lessons, it cost 35p Learnt to dance to 'Night Fever' & 'Instant Replay' = really good
Got home at 10.20
Phoned Sam

Some Perry Como Christmas joy from 1978

December 10

Sunday 10th December 1978
Got up at 11.00
Left Fi's at 12.10
Sam phoned at 1.30 & I went to Waterloo at 2.30
Stayed there all afternoon
Also had my tea there
Sam's grandparents took us to Lime Street Station
Sam got the 8.45 pm train back to Stafford
I won't see him now for 2 weeks (boo hoo!) I will miss him
Got a lift back home from his grandparents
Got home at 9.15
Washed my hair
Tried to do some more of my essay on Marxist theory

Day 9

What would Christmas be in the 70s with out some nauseating staged Carpenters sketches. I do actually remember this one. Has Richard got plastic hair??? He looks like Ken (from Ken & Barbie)
