29th July 1979

Sunday 29
Dull morning
Hot afternoon
Went to the Salle de Jeux (I reckon it was like an amusement arcade... mmm? I wonder which site we actually stayed at on that list??)
Fi got talking to some French fella
He was really yuk!!
Home 11.20 pm

So whilst I was gallivanting in France ... this hit number one in the UK. Which has become a Monday anthem..... I had forgotten how weird those kids looked .. I guess they were based on the Midwich Cuckoos ~ Village of the Damned

I still have my 7" 45 single :-)

This amused me from 1976... Bob Geldof (or Geldorf!!) saying who he would NOT give a present to if he was Santa!!

Mmmm Bob met Paula Yates in 1976 then married her in 1986. She discovered in the late 1990's that her father wasn't Jess Yates but Hughie Green... how ironic is that 1976 comment!! But it all ended so tragically.

Hughie Paula Jess

I wrote the FIRST ever review of the debut Boomtown Rats album - published in Graffiti magazine - in 1977. I actually got in a little trouble with the record label because I had reviewed it from a "white label" pre-release, and the article appeared even before the LP was in the shops! (In those days this was much frowned upon)

I was also responsible for the slogan on one of the band's early promotional badges (buttons). It said "Hey, You, Geldof my Cloud"

That quote from Bob is quite spooky. Paula had a really nice pad down in Hastings ......... I always quite liked her actually ....... it was a great shame.

I have a king sized guilty crush on Sir Bob. even though he swore all through the live performance I went to once. or maybe because of that :-)

Poor girl, not one but two creepy fathers. Bob was quite right about Hughie Green...add smarmy to the list of adjectives ....

DP ~ I liked Paula Yates, she did have some bad press (but there again most famous folk do at one time or another) but she was certainly unique, lively and witty .. a terrible shame she was so tormented
