Well I made it it ... yes I made it through the the first week back after Christmas break.
I managed to complete 2 days hours in one day yesterday thanks to the rail network in the UK.
I had to go to London yesterday for a meeting.... on the way down the train was late due to a vehicle hitting a railway bridge, so the train had to reverse. Got to my meeting 1 1/2 late.
On the return my booked 17.40 train left without any passengers... yes you read that right 'without any passengers'!
It was showing on the board that it was being prepared with no platform number then it disappeared from there. When I enquired what had happened I was told it had gone...

'gone?' I asked...
'yes if it has gone off the board it has departed' was the reply...
'so a train left London en route to Manchester without any passengers?' I asked
'yes that would seem what has happened' was the reply

You know you couldn't make something like that up could you?... surely someone somewhere with half a braincell on the departing train thought... 'gosh it is quiet on this train tonight ??'

Got home at 21.45 (after leaving home at 07.00) .... tsk !!

TGIF :-)

NM ~ I may have had a glass of wine when I got home lol
It's funny I used to frequently do days of that length before I had a change of career and it never really threw me .. it is amazing how quickly you adapt to the 9 -5 routine

I've noticed that when things go wrong with the trains, they REALLY go wrong. It's never 5-10 minutes late, always hours. And always when it's important to be on time. Why is that? It's almost as if they know...
Hope you are enjoying your weekend! You've earned it!

Get paid weekly so you can retire earlier ....... or become a famous artist ....... or a famous blogger ...... or marry a rich man with a heart condition ......

Olga, the Traveling Bra said... you know any rich men with heart conditions? Just wunnerin'....

70's - That's pretty funny about the train! How did you make it home?

Daddy Papersurfer said...

@Olga - if I did I'd marry him .....

Daddy Papersurfer said...

..... is it bigamy if you marry someone of the same sex? ..... oh well

DP ~ 'or become a famous artist ....... or a famous blogger ...... or marry a rich man with a heart condition ....'.... I suspect the weekly pay packets is the only likely option lol

Olga~ I had to wait for the next train .. oh the next train was cancelled so it was the next train after the next train... all in all a pretty stressy day :(

Diane ~ you are absolutely right in what you say if you have to get to somewhere for a certain time they go horribly wrong .. the odd 5 -10 minute delays are hardly noticable in the greater scheme of rail travel ... ah well not due down Souff until the end of the month now so I may have recovered by then lol :-)

No DP... it's bigamy for me to keep retrieving your papers when I still have not received even the other flip-flop!

70s - Did you keep in touch with Corinna (your penpal) or was that a thing of your youth only?

Dear Frac ~ I did actually write to her (in really bad German) many years later at the address I had from her but I got no reply ... maybe I should see if I can find her on Facebook ??
