20th & 21st February 1980

Wednesday 20
Got up at 10.00
had a bath
Didn't go into college today
Had the intention to revise - well I did do some Business Studies in the afternoon
Wrote to my cousin and Mrs Rowcliffe that owns the cottage (no texts or e mails them days to book your holiday)
Sam phoned at 3.00
Had a pleasant chat
He rang again at 10.00 pm from his 'Gentleman's Night' - 3 strippers on - NAUGHTY!
Bed at 10.40

Thursday 21
Only in college for an hour
Met Fi at 1.00
She came back here for dinner and left at 3.30
Revised cookery all evening
Sam rang at 8.30
he said his mum & dad had had a bad row
Stayed up until 3.45 am to watch Robin Cousins skate in the Olympics at Lake Placid
& he won a gold medal yipeee!
but I am knackered now!!
***********************

Wow I had completely forgotten about Robin Cousins and his achievements on ice. It is strange as I only readily remember Torvill & Dean 's perfect 10s.
It would seem he is a judge on Dancing on Ice (yes I am sorry I am not up to date on all of this skating stuff.. I pop my head round to the lounge to watch the skating and pop out again when the results come up). I wonder if Schofe will mention it tomorrow about Robin's success 29 years ago?

Anyway this is Robin in full flow

and this what he has been judging !!

Dancing on Ice is OK I suppose .... but not nearly as engrossing as Strictly Dancing ..... you made the right decision not to watch it ..... now, about those strippers......?

I started playing the second video half way through the first and at one stage he was doing exactly the same things on both screens.. eerie

Oh I loved Robin Cousins, and the other male too. What was his name? John Curry? I think he died tho'.

Why on earth were the boys having strippers? Was someone getting married or were they just boys who liked strippers as a regular part of a 'healthy' diet?

;-)

Figure skating has kind of been forgotten about, hasn't it? It was really quite up from the late 80s to late 90's and now I have no idea who's who anymore.

DP ~ I thought 'Dancing on Ice' was a must see in your book?? I do agree it doesn't have the pull for me like Strictly ...
what about the strippers? I wasn't there!!! lol

Wow NM I must try that .. not the skating of course as I have not put a pair of blades on in about 9 years [mmm I wonder if it is like riding a bike??]

Hi EPM ~ Robin was great wasn't he? I had to look up if John Curry had died .. and yes he did in 1994. That went past me as I was a new mum at the time and as we know loads go by you when you are juggling the world. :-)

Dear Frac ~ it was a 'Gentleman's Night' a throw back to when men got together, they had speeches and comics on and women were mere toys ... mmmm I think that still goes on ;-)

Yes figure skating has taken a back seat these days but it is a great art form and so difficult .. I am with you I have no idea these days as to who is who [is that a sign of aging or just being so darned busy you don't have the time or the brain capacity to take everything in?]

(I thought I commented here already?) I used to ice skate! 'Twas fun....i used to skate at a rink that Charles Schultz (Peanuts author) built!...met him a few times...he even complimented me on skating outfit that my mom made for me....lavender skirt & top....but I thought I looked like a dork! :)

I admire anyone who can stay upright for more than 10 seconds on ice, so these guys have me awestruck.
I liked John Curry too...shame.

Olga ~ aww how sweet a little lilac tutu and wow you met Charles Schulz ... have you skated as an adult? I just think now I will break something .. like my mate taking her kids to the rink ... 30 seconds on the ice some kid careered into her .. result broken wrist ... eek
