I have cut down on bread and cheese and and and and ... and am feeling the benefit of that ..... now don't laugh but I have started a 'class'.... I could have done pottery, DIY, mechanics for beginners along with a plumbing course.. but no I have chosen belly dancing
My first attempt was last week .. and I was handed a waist scarf full of jingly coins. I learned a 'routine' where I was okay with my feet doing it but add in hands it was a disaster.
At the end of the session the instructor said 'have you done this before?'
I replied 'no'
she said 'but you have such good isolation'
Translated that means the top half of my body moves and the bottom half doesn't and visa versa ... apparently in belly dancing terms this is good... I put it down to having a bad back ..
so I thought yeah I am on a winner here!
Got talking to some gals at the class and asked how long they had been doing this?
One gal replied '6 years' ... SIX YEARS !!
OMG She was as round as she was tall!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Way to go sis... belly (or flamenco) are both fabulous types of dance to learn... very classy! (Wish I was there to go with you.)
You can't see it, but I'm waving pom poms (full of jingly coins) for you!!
MWAH!
No good offering a gingernut then ..... *wiggle* *wiggle* *wiggle*
I have 'good isolation' as well .... probably because I smell though ...
Dear Frac I would so love to to do Flamenco ... ooo all that fire and passion swoon....
How fab would that be if we lived in the same place we would have such a laugh... I will think of you waving your jingly pom poms (that isn't a euphemism is it??) on Thursday as I wave my arms in some abandonment ... :)
DP I had no idea gingernuts wiggled unless they were dunked in tea.. that is more of a 'droop splosh'...
After being in the cupboard with you for so long I can't argue with how you should be isolated ... although thise chicken legs of yours can conduct a reasonable shimmy .:)
I'm savin' my coins, so one day if some strange watcher of your class starts pitching pennies at your coin slot...don't be afraid.
...much. Really. :)
My Aunt got into belly dancing years ago. At the time it was such a novelty and her class were so good that they were in the local newspaper and I think they may've even been on local TV.
JC rofl 'pitching pennies at your coin slot' OMG
GW I intend not to appear in public shimmying ... although the class is at a stage school... well done to your aunt though ;)
I did a 3 terms of belly dancing classes some years ago and really liked it. Then I regained my habitual laziness and stopped.....
Just for the record my instructor told me I had crappy isolation
Happy Birthday for yesterday, hope you had a great day!
NM I bet you were a natural despite your 'crappy isolation' [ guess your instructor has necer seen corset Friday??]
It is good fun though isn't it :) x
Thank you GW I had the best of times for my birthday ... in fact it was a weekend of great times :)
I had to reread your comment regarding my comment. My coinslot's SO BIG you could fit a US Silver Dollar in it in a pitch.
...sideways. :)
hee hee JC not entirely sure that explanation makes it any less rofl....
At least it's not a 'roll' of coins sideways. :)
