snow, snow and more snow

This time last week I had just returned form a fabby day trip to London. The sun was shining with bright blue skies albeit a tad chilly ... my friend had walked the dog for me and said it had snowed.
Yes there had been a dusting of it ...

Tuesday was my first day back to work after 2 and a bit weeks of festivities. I showered, pottered around getting ready for work and opened the curtains..... I couldn't believe it, over night we had had a complete 'white out'. It was one of those 'huh?' moments.
I then had the dilemma 'should I or should I not attempt to get to work?'.. it took about 10 minutes to decided that (I know what took me so long?) .... definitely it was going to be a 'snow day' off.

They tell us on the news that we have not had snow like this since 1981. I don't have a full diary for that year and noted an entry on 28th December...
'Bank Holiday. Thick snow. Took Sascha for walk along the canal. Canal completely frozen'

I wonder if this is when this was taken??
Oh btw ... whilst we are having such a cold snap .. don't forget to feed the birds. My shed roof has become a cool place to hang out if you are a bird and I spent ages watching the activities from my bathroom window as I did my washing.. (yes I had frozen pipes downstairs, so hand washed all my weekly wash in the sink and bath.... finished it all. I was just finishing the final load and the pipes defrosted and one burst. Panic, panic ... water gushing out all over the kitchen floor... managed to drag the very tightly fitted fridge/freezer out so I could get to the stop tap.... (what a stupid place to put it ...) ... Ah water stopped. Now find a plumber!!)

It was fascinating to watch the pecking order.. Seagulls are the bosses, followed by magpies, wood pigeons, black birds, song thrushes, starlings, sparrows and robins, finches and tits.. although there is a black bird that seems to have claimed ownership and even tried to chase the magpie.. not a wise decision....... for more info about feeding birds this winter pop over and see Claire please

Doesn't your dog know that snow is really cold!!!

Excellent piccies young 70's - we've actually been snowed in here for a couple of days - managed to get to the supermarket this morning - luckily I've got a Volvo which can cope with most stuff + it's ancient and I really don't care what happens to it .......

BTW, you could turn off the snow on the blog - it might help ....

The dog simply adores the snow ... I know I did try to tell her it was cold.... lol

Volvos are great I have had a couple in the past... but I must say I was way impressed with Charlie the Citroen.. it hadn't moved for a week and was under about a foot of snow and he started first time...

Glad you have been able to get out again you must have been running low on gingernuts...

It is starting to thaw here .. but we are supposed to get more snow tonight and tomorrow ... fingers crossed the weathermen are wrong...

I heartily agree with your plea to feed the birds. Love the photos by the way.

Love your photographs of your snow - especially the one of Layla who seems to be like Milo - doesn't feel the cold. Don't their little feet get cold?

We have still had no snow despite numerous forecasts predicting loads - I have stopped reading them, they are all nonsense :)

Technogran ~ Thank you .. I tell you there must be the fattest of birds over here .. they have been spoilt rotten... love to see them enjoying the feast :-)

Layla and Milo are siblings separated by birth ... lol. Yes their ickle feet get freezing I am tempted to buy some dreadful poochie boots for her but I know they would be impossible to put on when a walk is in the making(she jumps and yaps so much)
I am stunned that you have had no snow .. there was a big red for danger splog around where you live a few days ago??

Love the pics!

Thank you for looking after your tits and encouraging others to do the same :)

Everything is melting and going grey, so as much as I dislike snow, I dislike that more!

For folks who aren't prepared for it, that kind of snow can sure be trouble! No wonder most folks think we Canadians are bonkers for living where this kind of thing can happen daily... for months.

So sorry about the pipes. I'm sure you'd rather spend your hard-earned money on shoes rather than plumbers. Frozen pipes are heck. Usually there are fires here each winter because people living in mobile homes (trailers) sometimes put heaters under their floors to keep pipes from freezing and instead burn down their homes. Sheesh. If we'd only just stuck with the igloos, we'd not have so many problems. ;-)

It does make for lovely photography though, doesn't it?

And kudos to you and Claire and Technogran, for caring so much about your tits.

Hi Claire ... it is so important to look after your tits and other birdies that venture into the garden.. I am especially pleased as my next door neighbour has kept her 4 cats in whilst the snow has been so thick .. so the birdies have had a ball.
Must agree with you about the fading snow it leaves behind a grey dirty mess and slushy slippy bits too :(

Dear Frac... you know I have been thinking of you whilst we have had this snow and thought 'what wimps we are in comparison to the snow you have here' .. the thing is we are not prepared for it when it comes we become chaotic (I am thankful though for a fun day in the snow day off though)

The frozen pipe saga was a shock in 20 odd years of living in this house I have never had to deal with the problem.. thankfully a local man sorted me out and gave me 'neighbours rates' so I still have some reserve money to buy shoes.

Igloos sound a lot more sensible than burning down your caravan (mobile home/trailer)...

& yes we gals are doing our best with the titties ... without them things would not be the same ;-)

hey there!!! wowww!! that is a nice photo! love the photo of the view from the patio! amazing! love it.

And the cute face of the dog, is sooo adorable!! and wonder how come she doesn't feel the cold on her feet! :)

We had the snow as well last few weeks, and was really bad, since Ireland has never got this kind of weather (esp the snow) since many many years ago!! So, it creates interruption everywhere!! Like, a massive, massive problem! But for me, I love it. It's white all over, and it's just so beautiful! ;) xxx

Hi B4by wb hun... layla just so lovs the snow .. loves to bury herself in it but she has the coldest of feet ever. I was considering getting her little wellie boots but as she springs 3ft in the air when she is going for a walk I think it would be impossible to get them on her.

I love the snow but getting to work is now becoming a pain... maybe I should put it in my work contract that 'I don't 'do' snow' lol :-)

Nice photos, I guess it really was an event if it hasn't happen since 1981. I like the falling snow motif on the site too.
